Ok, but it’s been more than 25 years since we saw the launch of Pokemon blue so we thought it was time Pokemon blue evolved just like Squirtle would.

So picture having one of the Pokemon launch titles for your Gameboy re-imagined with a Shiny Blastoise theme..

Pretty cool. But wait, imagine if someone bought that game up to date with a release of a full-colour version!!

Pokemon Blue – Shiny Blastoise Edition

This is the ultimate homage to Nintendo’s original release of Pokemon Blue.

Aesthetic:

We wanted this release to hit hard with the nostalgia and bring out your inner child that needs it in your collection. So we trialed a lot of ideas until we were completely in awe at what we created.

Starting with the design of the label, we found a way to apply a holographic effect to the artwork, reminiscent of the 1st edition trading cards.

The artwork itself was again inspired by the Pokemon trading cards and pays tribute to the game’s origins from japan.

And finally, on to the cart itself, this had to pop so it will become the centre of your collection and we achieved this with a stunning deep metallic blue finish, completing the theme we know you will love.

Gameplay:

We took an untouched ROM file from the original game and patched it.

This is a colorization hack of Pokemon Blue. It takes full advantage of Gameboy Color hardware. The overworld is fully and properly colorized, and with colorized attack sprites, even battles are more colorful!

In addition to color, Pokemon and Trainer sprites have been imported from Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal.
